Tina Fey Talks About Returning as Palin

Although Tina Fey is not exactly in need of a job, it looks as if the multiple Emmy-winner will finish the task she really hates doing: playing Sarah Palin.
Even though it was hard denying the similarity in their looks (even Fey’s daughter called the VP candidate “Mommy”), Tina said she was dead set against taking on the role for her old stomping grounds. Fortunately for us, a persistent Lorne Michaels (SNL‘s producer) won out on in the end.
“I was fighting them all week on it. I kept saying, ‘I don’t want to do it, I’m not an impressionist.’ I kept telling Lorne, ‘No! I’ll show up ... I’ll do anything except play her. I can’t do it.’ Then, I was worn down. Lorne wore me down by the end of the week,” Fey said to Access Hollywood.

McCain Camp Reacts to SNL Parody
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Gossip,
The minute we all got a look at Sarah Palin, the bevy of available jokes was suddenly self-evident. The woman does, after all, look a great deal like comedienne Tina Fey. That Fey is an SNL alum and still pals with NBC is just the icing on the cake. The inevitable SNL season premiere followed, showing the inevitable pairing of screen buds Fey and Amy Poehler as none other than Palin and Hillary Clinton.
The millions of SNL viewers found it hysterical and the video has been posted on a multitude of entertainment sites since. John McCain’s camp, however, didn’t find their funny bones tickled.

Tina Fey Channels Palin on Saturday Night Live
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Video,
Although Saturday Night Live was down one Barack Obama (he didn’t appear in light of Hurricane Ike), the audience was up one Tina Fey. As rumored, the former cast member returned to her old stomping grounds last night to portray her political look-alike: Sarah Palin.
In the hilarious opening sketch, Fey touched on several topics from the Charlie Gibson interview (her view of Russia, the Bush Doctrine). Meanwhile, Amy Poehler played an (understandably) jealous and bitter Hillary Clinton.
Saturday Night Live Makes Room for Barack Obama and Tina Fey

UPDATE: In light of Hurricane Ike, Obama has decided to cancel this appearance.
Let the political season officially begin.
Although it’s still unclear who Saturday Night Live will choose for their key political roles, we now know which candidate will be stopping by Rockefeller Plaza first: Barack Obama.
It’s just been announced that the Democratic presidential candidate will be appearing on the show’s 34th season premiere. Obama will just one of the high-profile guests this weekend. Olympic phenom Michael Phelps is also scheduled to host.
This will not be Barack’s first visit to the NBC studio. He last participated in a Halloween sketch back in November 2007. I wouldn’t be surprised to see John McCain in the upcoming weeks as well. The Republican nominee has made several cameos on the program already. (You can see one of those clips after the jump.)

Michael Phelps to Host SNL
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, News,
So you win 8 gold medals and help NBC score phenomenal ratings—what do you do next? Go to Disneyland? Well, that’s entirely possible. But Michael Phelps still has one more challenge he needs to tackle: hosting Saturday Night Live.
To thank the swimmer for all that he has done for
our country, the Peacock network has given the It Boy the chance to kick off its 34th season. (I mean - if you’re going to milk a cash cow…you gotta do it while it’s still fresh, right?)
Surprisingly, despite all his hours on camera, this gig will actually mark Michael’s acting debut. It’ll also probably be the first time he’s ever seen fully-clothed. (That is, of course, assuming the producers allow him to be clothed.)
The season premiere of Saturday Night Live - featuring Michael Phelps and musician Lil Wayne - debuts on September 13.

Casting Corner: Ugly Betty, Saturday Night Live, In Plain Sight
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Late Night, Prime Time, ABC, Cable, NBC, News,
Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:
According to Entertainment Weekly, the whistle may soon be blown on a Ugly Betty hunk.
Back in May, I declared Eddie Cibrian to be ABC’s Hottest Co-Star of the Year. Unfortunately, the hot gym teacher will apparently be taking his
dimples over to another network. Cibrian, who was only scheduled to appear in four Betty episodes this season, has now lined up a short arc on USA’s The Starter Wife.
So what will Coach Tony Diaz’s eventual departure mean for Hilda? Well, if she’s half as devastated as I am—it’ll probably mean lots of nights spent with Ben & Jerry.

Amy Poehler to Star in Office Spinoff
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Prime Time, NBC, Saturday Night Live, The Office, News,
In the past few years, fans of the creatively-uneven Saturday Night Live have seen several great female members leave. First there was Tina Fey, then Maya Rudolph. Now it looks as if Lorne Michaels will soon have another void to fill.
Earlier today, Amy Poehler confirmed to the Associated Press that she too will become part of NBC’s primetime programming. The comedienne, who was just nominated for her SNL work, is set to star in the spinoff of The Office.
The 36-year-old, who is currently pregnant with her first child, could not or would not provide any details about her new role. Aside from the hiring of Aziz Ansari last month, not much is known about the show. It’s actually now being reported that the comedy will not be a spinoff after all; it may instead be a stand-alone series.
When Poehler will depart from the late-night program is not clear at this point. The comedienne says she intends to stay on through at least the elections. After that time, fans can see Amy in her new NBC project when it airs Thursdays @ 9:30 p.m. this winter.

Topping the noms for drama programs was newcomer Mad Men; NBC’s 30 Rock lead all comedy programs. In total, HBO was the most-nominated network while ABC came in second.
This year’s ceremony will be held on Sept. 21 on ABC.

George Carlin Dies of Heart Failure
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy,
George Carlin, the very first host of Saturday Night Live, died Sunday evening of heart failure. The 71-year-old was admitted into a Santa Monica hospital earlier that day after complaining of chest pains.
Although he had racked up 14 HBO specials and more than 130 appearances on The Tonight Show, the comedian was probably best known for his monologue on a 1972 album. His list of the ‘Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television’ eventually led to several arrests and a Supreme Court case. (Those words - which were ruled indecent - still cannot be said on air today.)
